Welcome to our communities page. We are currently building a database of the communities within the cathedral. Over the coming weeks you will be able to find listings of communities and groups within the Parish of St. John's. We hope to provide an insight to all our communities. Therefore, if you have a community within the parish please contact the webmaster via this communities form.

Altar Servers ![]()
The Cathedral
Altar Servers attend practices regularly. Each server serves at least once a week at a Sunday
(or Saturday Anticipatory) Mass. It is a real privilege to serve
God in this way. We are always looking to recruit young members
of the parish (aged between 8 14). If you wish to be part
of a hard working, committed and dedicated team and think you
have what were looking for then please contact Simon Rogers, Cathedral MC,
by clicking
here.

Cathedral Choir ![]()
The Cathedral
Choir sings at the 11:00 Mass each Sunday, and also on major feast
days. Rehearsals take place each Thursday evening between 6:00
and 7:30. The age range of our members covers some seven decades,
and a friendlier choir would be hard to find. Regular social events
(many specifically for the under-sixteens) complement our weekly
work. There are no auditions, and previous experience is not essential,
although it is a distinct advantage. There are vacancies in all
voices, but we are particularly keen to encourage more men to
join. For further information, contact Chris Duarte.

This is a friendly active group who decorate the Cathedral for all Occasions, the group was formed 25 years ago, most of the existing members are from the original group.
We are aware of global issues, where possible we use local flower growers & recycle our waste.
We have a social side coming together for outings, lunches & supper parties.
We are always looking for new members male or female, as well as general helpers i.e. to water arrangements during the week. If you attend week day mass maybe you would consider this. If you can help in anyway please contact Brigid Dowler at Cathedral house

The over 60s Club exists for the older members of the Cathedral Parish, as well as those from St Mark’s and Holy Apostles’ Parishes. It provides social and pastoral support by enabling members to meet regularly and enjoy each others' company. The Club meets in the hall every second Thursday afternoon from 2.00 until 3.45pm.
Members enjoy a cup of tea on arrival, followed by either a game of bingo, guest speakers, quizzes or similar activities. A varied programme is pursued during the year, including a coach trip to Walsingham and Wells in May on the feast of the Ascension. Other events in the last year have included a coach trip to Southwold and “Fish and Chips” at Dunwich.
