The Annual Childrens’ Pilgrimage to Walsingham  takes place on Tuesday 27th May 2008 during the school half-term holiday. The day will begin with a procession from the village, at 10.45 am, led by Bishop Michael, to the shrine. Mass will be celebrated at 12 noon at the Chapel of Reconciliation followed by a picnic in the meadow and a fun afternoon at the beach. Further details from Christine Storman 01603 713390.

The annual 2-Cathedrals trip. This year Chartres will be the venue for the trip in October (12-18th). Details from Fr James.

New Riddel Posts. During this last week the posts, complete with angels, were put in place in the chancel. They will support the rich and beautiful hangings that will enclose this part of the chancel. The Cathedral Friends are raising the necessary funds to meet the cost. They have already raised enough money to pay for the posts; the hangings will have to wait until more funds have been raised. Those who attended the parish AGM in 2006 will remember the designs and presentation given by the cathedral architect on the re-ordering of the sanctuary and this is the latest phase in an ongoing process. More details and architect’s drawings are at the back of the Cathedral.

Keswick Hall Lecture - Tuesday 4th March at 7pm the Speaker will be the Reverend Dom Antony Sutch OSB (as heard on BBC Radio 4’s Thought for the Day, former head teacher of Downside School, Bath and current parish preist of Beccles). Boxing Day Party for refugees and asylum seekers:
At the request of the Red Cross the Cathedral Justice and Peace Group will be hosting a party on Boxing Day for refugees, asylum seekers and their families. It will be in The Methodists Church Hall Chapelfields because when we were booking a venue the Cathedral Hall was planned to be closed on Boxing Day. We would love some help please. Last year some amazing parishioners cooked deserts and/or turned up to prepare the hall, gave lifts, mixed with the guests and helped clear up afterwards—all done without any fuss. The new rota for Eucharistic Ministers is now available. The new rota for Readers is also available.

This week we received the good news that the Heritage Lottery Fund has awarded the Narthex Appeal a grant for £995,000. There is still much to be done, including serious money to raise. However the grant will give greater credibility to our applications to major grant-making trusts. Within our own community the Narthex will take priority over all other fund-raising for the next six months. I am asking all parish groups to keep me fully informed of all fund-raising activities so that these can be co-ordinated and kept in line with the Narthex Appeal.  

Next Sunday, 9th December, Father James will lead a special Advent Carol Service at 4pm. It will take place in the chancel with readings, prayers and music led by the cathedral choir. All are welcome. Afterwards there will be refreshments in the parish hall.

Also next Sunday at the 9am Mass you are invited to bring an "unwrapped" present for a child up to the age of 16. These will be distributed to needy families by the Salvation Army. (There is a particular need for items for older children).

English Heritage week 2007 - We need your help to act as Stewards, help with refreshments and as Tower Tour guides during this week.  There is a form at the back of the Cathedral giving full details of what is required.  Only tick the boxes for the times that you are available.  If you tick all the boxes then we shall expect you to be available the whole day! When completed please return the form to the Cathedral.

Sunday Lunches will be taking a break for the summer in August and will resume on Sunday 16th September 2007.  There will be a special lunch today, 29th July, after the 11am Mass, to celebrate the end of another splendid year.  Sunday Lunches has raised £519.25 since September 2006 for various charitable causes.  Thanks to everyone for their support.

St John’s Youth FC Quiz & Chips - Andy & Mary Clark Zambia Appeal. The Quiz held on 7th July raised £360! Family Cycle Ride  - All parishioners are invited on a family cycle ride Sunday 24th June. Meet at the Pottergate entrance of St John’s First School at 11am for a ride through Norwich to the new Visitor’s Centre in the Whitlingham Country Park.  It will be a gentle ride, suitable for most ages and abilities, with plenty of stops for rest & refreshment. On Tuesday Evening  the Young Adults meets for a talk by a member of the group on ‘Reaching the Unreached’, a charity that brings family life to the poorest in the villages of Southern India. All welcome! Meet at the Cathedral at 8pm.

The Renewal Prayer Group meet on Monday 30th April at 25 Dereham Road at 7.30pm. Meetings in May will be Monday 14th   and 21st May in Cathedral House at 7.30pm

The Medical Foundation Group will meet in Cathedral House Library at 7.30pm Monday 30th April.

Over 60’s Club coach trip to Walsingham and the coast, Thursday 17th May, leaving St John’s 10.15am, returning 6.15pm. Non-members welcome, fare £5. Phone 456176 to reserve a place on the coach.

Annual Children’s Pilgrimage to Walsingham takes place on Tuesday 29th May 2007 which is during the school half-term holiday. Bishop Michael will be leading us on the day.

Coach will leave St John’s Cathedral at 9.30am, tickets £4 available from the Cathedral Shop or Cathedral Office. There are now two coaches!

This is the high point in the Church’s year, a special time of grace. Please take a leaflet which gives all the times of services throughout the week (This will be available on the website shortly). There will be an extra Mass on Easter Sunday morning in the chapel of the Norfolk and Norwich Hospital at 9 am.

On Good Friday at 9pm Bishop Michael will lead ‘Prayers round the Cross’ a Taize style meditation with readings and music. This is for young people of all ages!

Readers - please check the list of readers for Holy Week which is at the back of the Cathedral.

There will be no meeting of the Young Adults group on Tuesday.

Easter Chicks - The Embroidery Group is seeking to raise money to purchase materials for new vestments! ‘Easter Chicks’ will be on sale after Mass at the week-end £1 each. Last Sunday they sold out!

The CWL General Meeting will be held at Cathedral House Tuesday 27th March at 2.15pm. We take this opportunity to thank everyone who contributed to The Water Aid Appeal.

The Narthex - There will be an important presentation on Friday 30th March at 6.00 for 6.15 in the parish hall.  All are warmly invited to come and see the final plans and 3D presentation of the Narthex, incorporating comments received at the December meeting and in the suggestion boxes.  Representatives of parish groups and other stakeholders have been invited and we hope that many people from the parish will also come along. Refreshments will be provided at 6pm.
