New Riddel Posts. During this last week the posts, complete with angels, were put in place in the chancel. They will support the rich and beautiful hangings that will enclose this part of the chancel. The Cathedral Friends are raising the necessary funds to meet the cost. They have already raised enough money to pay for the posts; the hangings will have to wait until more funds have been raised. Those who attended the parish AGM in 2006 will remember the designs and presentation given by the cathedral architect on the re-ordering of the sanctuary and this is the latest phase in an ongoing process. More details and architect’s drawings are at the back of the Cathedral.
Last year some amazing parishioners cooked deserts and/or turned up to prepare the hall, gave lifts, mixed with the guests and helped clear up afterwards—all done without any fuss. Anyone who could do any of those things this year please contact Colin (625953) Isabel (611035) Amanda (443758) if you have an hour or two to spare away from the festivities or the shops and would like to help.
This week we received the good news that the Heritage Lottery Fund has awarded the Narthex Appeal a grant for £995,000. There is still much to be done, including serious money to raise. Within our own community the Narthex will take priority over all other fund-raising for the next six months. I am asking all parish groups to keep me fully informed of all fund-raising activities so that these can be co-ordinated and kept in line with the Narthex Appeal.
